Deva Gana represents piety, goodness of character and charitable nature. Manushya Gana is involved in both good or bad nature while Rakshasa is concerned with hatred, contempt, meanness and mischief. Due to the above considerations, it is understood why the different natures of the Ganas should be properly matched for marriage. If the individuals of two different natures enter into matrimonial alliance, it will create fight, quarrel and other disturbance in married life.

The criteria followed for allotting points to the various combinations are as follows :

Rule of Matching

  • If the Ganas of both the boy and the girl are the same, the match is considered to be the best and full 6 points or gunas are allotted.
  • The matching is considered good if the boy has Deva Gana and the girl has Manushya Gana. This combination is allotted 5 points or gunas in matching.
  • ƒ The matching is considered bad if the boy has Rakshasa Gana and the girl has Deva Gana. The marriage of this combination is not permissible and is allotted 1 point or guna in match making.
  • ƒThe matching is considered highly inauspicious and may prove fatal if the boy of Manushya Gana marries a girl of Rakshasa Gana. On the contrary, the matching again proves fatal if the boy of Rakshasa Gana marries a girl of Manushya Gana.

Exception to the Rule & Nullification

  • If the janma Nakshatra of the girl is 14th or more from the Janma Nakshatra of the boy, then the Dosha does not emerge and gets cancelled.
  • If the Rashi lords of both the boy and girl are either the same or friendly to each other or neutral to each other then, the Gana Dosha gets cancelled.

For example suppose the girl's Janma Rashi is Vrisha and the boy's Janma Rashi is Tula. In both the cases, the Rashi lord is Venus. It means that in such an alliance, there will not be inherent Gana Dosha and it will be a compatible match.

In the example horoscope, Janma Nakshatra of the boy is Uttara Phalguni and the girl has Rohini. Both the Boy as well as the Girl belong to same Gana i.e. Manushya Gana. So, the matching is perfect and full 6 points or gunas will be allotted.

Horoscope Matching

Horoscope Matching

Today “Horoscope matching” has become the indispensable part of Hindu marriage. But it has not been mentioned in any old Jataka scripture of Astrology. However, it has been described in the Muhurta scriptures of the same. In Ramayan, marriage of Rama, Bharata, Lakshmana and Shatrughna has been described elaborately. But, in this great epic also Horoscope matching has not been mentioned. Likewise, in Mahabharata, too, it has not been cited. Therefore, it can be said that Horoscope matching in Astrology was not in practice a few centuries ago. But, the community accepted and made it an indispensable part keeping its usefulness in view.
