Nadi. These eight components are calculated on the basis of Janma Rashi and Janma Nakshatra of every individual. While checking the compatibility for marriage of a boy and a girl, these eight components are taken into consideration and matching is done on the basis of established astrological principles. These eight components have 36 points or gunas in toto and if 18 or more gunas are found to be common between the boy and the girl, then match is considered to be compatible. The total points allotted to each of the eight components are as follows :

Grah Maitri

Despite the saying "marriages are made in heaven", bulk of the people in India consult an astrologer or pundit to match the horoscope and check the compatibility of prospective girl and boy. As a result success rate of marriages in India is the highest as compared to the other nations of the world.

If the proper procedure is followed and the horoscopes of the prospective girl and boy are dealt with in totality to arrive at a compatible solution either through natural cancellations of evil or through rectification rites wherever possible, the efforts are of immense importance in providing a compatible, happy and lasting union. The process of matching of horoscope is however not so easy as it is understood. The methods normally adopted are neither helpful in checking the defects exhibited in either horoscope nor in removing those defects. Sometimes even the preparation of charts is done on wrong notation generally due to lack of knowledge of exact birth details.

There are even the tendency to pronounce the results of matching on the basis of even calling names of girl and boy. If one follows such unscientific methods and rely upon them then how and why could the astrology be responsible for any debacle? In cases of failure in finding a match for their ageing daughter, the parents even take resort to making a horoscope providing post dated birth details so that they could show the lower age of their daughter to the parents of the boy. In these cases, it is futile to find any significance in the matching of horoscope.

How should the matching be done?

If you aspire to take full advantage of Astrology and really want to ensure stability, love, peace, harmony, prosperity and ever lasting relationship between boy and girl, you should take into account a number of astrological considerations. In our opinion the following two points should be given due consideration :

Ashtakoota Milaan

Ashtakoota Milaan is based on the Moon Rashi and Moon Nakshatra of both boy and girl. It is essential to judge the dosha, their cancellation and points allotted as per the grade of matching. The factors considered on the basis of Moon Rashi are Varna (spiritual or Ego development), Vashya (magnetic control and amenability), Grah Maitri (psychological disposition, mental qualities, affection) etc. The factors for Moon Nakshatra are Tarakoota, Yonikoota (bodily physical contact), Gana koota (Character and temperament), Nadi Koota (pulse and nervous energy, physiological and hereditary factors), Rajju (married life duration and widowhood), Vedha (afflictions), Mahendra (well being, children, longevity) and stree Deergha. Moon position is also studied with respect to its hemming on sides, associations and aspect by natural malefic planets and its Ashtakvarga chart.

Mangal (Kuja) Dosha

If Mars is placed in lagna, 4th house, 7th house, 8th house & 12th house, it is said that the person has potent Mangal Dosha. Mangal Dosha is considered bad for marriage and it is supposed that the Mangal Dosha bestows maleficence in married life somehow or the other. Many astrological texts suggest to see the Mangal Dosha from Moon lagna and Venus as well apart from Lagna. There are certain conditions as well for the nullification of Mangal Dosha. It is always advisable to match the horoscope with respect to Mangal Dosha as well. If Mangal Dosha gets nullified in the horoscopes of both the boy and the girl, then it's okay otherwise the marriage is not suggested. This subject will be dealt in detail in a separate chapter.

However, the readers must be aware that everything can't match in the horoscopes of a prospective couple and a benign consideration should be made while judging the compatibility.

Horoscope Matching

Horoscope Matching

Today “Horoscope matching” has become the indispensable part of Hindu marriage. But it has not been mentioned in any old Jataka scripture of Astrology. However, it has been described in the Muhurta scriptures of the same. In Ramayan, marriage of Rama, Bharata, Lakshmana and Shatrughna has been described elaborately. But, in this great epic also Horoscope matching has not been mentioned. Likewise, in Mahabharata, too, it has not been cited. Therefore, it can be said that Horoscope matching in Astrology was not in practice a few centuries ago. But, the community accepted and made it an indispensable part keeping its usefulness in view.
